Import Duties in the Cereal sector | Print |

The European Commission recently published Commission Regulation (EC) No 518/2009 amending Regulation 503/2009 fixing the import duties in the cereals sector. The Regulation came into force on 16 June 2009.

The table below (Annex I) shows the import duties on the products referred to in Article 136(1) of Regulation (EC) No 1234/2007

It is important to note that importers whose goods arrive in the EC via the Atlantic Ocean or via the Suez Canal may benefit, under Article 2(4) of Regulation (EC) No 1249/96 from a reduction in the duty of:

  • 3 EUR/t where the port of unloading is on the Mediterranean Sea or
  • 2 EUR/t where the port of unloading is in Denmark, Estonia, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Finland, Sweden, the UK or the Atlantic Coast of the Iberian Peninsular.

It is also important to note that importers of Maize other than seed (CN 1005 90 00) may also benefit from a flat-rate reduction of EUR 24 per tonne where the conditions laid down in Article 2(5) of Regulation (EC) No 1249/96 are met

The Average Freight Costs over the reference period referred to in Article 2(2) of Regulation (EC) No 1249/96 were:

Gulf of Mexico - Rotterdam 20.19 EUR/t

Great Lakes - Rotterdam 17.76 EUR/t
