ITS wrote in December of last year about the new criteria and conditions for authorisation for the continued use of Customs simplified procedures. Businesses were given until 30 June 2010 to make their applications to HMRC proving that they satisfied the new criteria.
However, HMRC has decided that there are circumstances when existing authorisation holders may apply for an extension to the 30 June deadline. Each case will be judged on its own merits but HMRC is adamant that preparations by a business should be well advanced and that only a short extension of time will be required to meet the new requirements and submit the re-application. Examples of where additional time could be granted are:
• Where a business requires a further month to finish documenting procedures or • Where a business is working toward submitting an AEO application by August (and therefore does not need to complete a Customs Simplified re-application).
In both of the above examples, a business will have to demonstrate to HMRC the progress they have made to date and that they are on track to finish by the proposed date.
What do I need to do to request additional time?
As soon as you become aware that you are unlikely to meet the 30 June deadline you must contact HMRC. The different contact points can be seen below:

Next Steps
The conditions and criteria for seeking CFSP authorisation have almost been brought into line with those of Authorised Economic Operator. In fact, if you are CFSP authorised then you are practically three quarters of the way toward the AEO requirements. International Trade Solutions has an enviable record of seeking authorisations for customs procedures. We actively work with our clients to build robust procedures and improve those that already exist. Our client-satisfaction record is second to none and we have an excellent working relationship with the customs authorities. If your business is seeking re-authorisation or you have any questions please contact us on (01905) 619229 or email us at
