Anti Dumping Duty on Chinese and Vietnamese Footwear finally set to end
Friday, 18 March 2011 10:34

The European Commission recently published a notice in the Official Journal of the European Union stating that as there had been no request for a review and extension of existing anti dumping duty (ADD) measures on imports of footwear from China and Vietnam, the existing ADD will expire on 31/3/2011.

The Notice does however state that as this is such a sensitive issue and the potential number of EU producers that could be damaged by any subsequent dumping of these products on the European market, the European Commission will monitor imports from China and Vietnam (as well as those consigned from Macau) for a year with a view to enable swift action should dumping be deemed to occur again.

ITS Comments

The ADD issue on footwear from the Far East has been a long running saga and one that has at times split the EU. Although the measures will expire at the end of this month, importers should be aware that imports of these products will be extremely closely monitored by the European Commission and any indication of subsequent dumping will more than likely be met with harsh and swift action. Importers should therefore keep their eyes peeled.
