New Controls on Imports of Plastic Kitchenware Articles

28 June 2011

The EU is imposing new controls for the import of polyamide and melamine plastic kitchenware articles originating or consigned from China and Hong Kong from 1 July 2011. From this date all consignments will be subject to documentary checks.

Also, 10% of consignments will be subject to identity and physical checks (including laboratory analysis) at point of first introduction in to the EU. Release to free circulation will not take place until these checks are complete and as such businesses can expect delays.

Importers must notify the competent authorities (in the UK this will be Port Health) at least two working days prior to the arrival of the goods in the EU. Customs Information Paper (CIP) (11)53 contains more details as well as a template for making the notification.
