Multi-Switch for Satellite Dish

Apparatus designed for multi-subscriber systems enabling several satellite receivers to receive different television signals via one satellite dish, but does not convert or modify the signals.  This is classified by Commission Regulation 1089/2012 to 8543.70.90 and not tariff heading 85.29.

Seaweed & Other Algae

The EU Commission is inserting a new additional note in Chapter 20 stating that seaweed and other algae are to be considered “other plants”, and subject to higher duty rates.  Botanists amongst you will appreciate that these items are not plants from a scientific perspective and so this step may be challenged at some point at the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

There has been considerable uncertainty as to the correct classification of seaweeds that are prepared or preserved by processes such as cooking, roasting, seasoning and adding sugar.  This Additional Note is aimed at resolving this matter.
